Welcome to Bear in Mind
A child’s Mental Health is fragile, and can easily be broken. Play Therapy can help a child to voice their emotions.
Play Therapy utilizes play, a child’s natural medium of expression, to help them express their feelings with less difficulty through toys instead of words. It is a therapeutic method of psychotherapy for children aged 3 and up. It is non directive and allows the child to work at their pace and at a pace that feels comfortable to them.
As an accredited play therapist I uses an assortment of play and creative arts techniques to work through some chronic, mild and moderate psychological and emotional conditions and issues in children that are causing behavioural problems and/or are preventing children from realising their full potential or from fitting in.
Play helps a child develop a sense of control over their innate abilities resulting to a sense of worth and ability. They may not be in control of the world around them but in the playroom they are in control and this allows them to learn and understand, process and explore their environment.
I support and facilitate a child and provide a safe environment for them to express their experiences and feelings through a natural, self-guided, self-healing process.
About Us
Many children need mental and emotional support during their formative years, to resolve, work through and process issues which they may come across at home, in school or in the outside world.
Now more then ever children need support, with school closures, they lost friendships and social connections, with more time spent online they were still exposed to bullying, returning to school caused separation anxiety or distress. Fear of the virus or fear of being exposed to the world outside, all their original fears and anxieties have now increased and those that didn't have any before now suddenly find that they do now.
At Bear in Mind, I have created a warm friendly space for Children to “play out” their feelings and emotions and the space to work through their problems. When children attend play therapy they experience something quite different. They have a 45 minute session of undivided attention, they may not speak during the session but they uses the toys as their words. The room will become their zone, and the time is theirs how they want to use it. The first sessions maybe getting to know you, but once they feel comfortable they begin their work.
As an accredited play therapist I offer children between the ages of 3 and 14 a secure space in which they can process their feelings. Play Therapy is built on the understanding that play is the way children grow, learn about their world and begin to understand their own feelings
I offer a safe environment and create a trusting non-judgemental relationship between the child and myself. Allowing the child the freedom to express themselves.
Within my purpose build space, I use a variety of resources, including art, clay, storying telling, puppets, music, sand trays and much more, there is always something that will interest the child. And I have never had a child not want to return to the play therapy room.
I am also qualified as a Teen Counsellor, I offer a counselling service with creative arts for Teenagers.
Our Services
We have created a wonderful safe space in “the playroom” which is fully equipped with all the resources needed and close to hand, creating a safe, non-judgemental space, where the child is comfortable enough to allow themselves to say and do what they want and still feel accepted.
Children may attend play therapy for many reasons, but it is recommended a Child attend play therapy for a minimum course of 12 weeks for their first episode a review will take place around week 8 or 10 and if more sessions are needed then these can be scheduled at this time. In some cases children may re visit the playroom several times after their initial episode, either to check in once a month or bi monthly until they feel ready to leave, or in other cases they may come back for another 12 week course in the future if something has set them back. Once they are listed as a client, they are alway welcome to return to the playroom when they need.
Once your child has an appointment, this will be their time, and day each week until they finish (adjustments can be made but it is important to keep this routine).
Each session is scheduled for 40 minutes but in some cases the session might run over by a few minutes. (but sessions are 40 minutes).
Session costs are:
Parent Interview: (1 hour, either via Zoom or in Person) - €60
Sessions: €75 per session, sessions can be paid individually at the end of each session or it can be paid in instalments as agreed.
